Meet Caleb!

"If you want to be a good debater and have good character, learn from Caleb. He teaches you how to win but also teaches you how to glorify God above your ranking."

– LD club student 2021-2022

Caleb Kreft competed in Lincoln-Douglas and Parliamentary Debate and all 4 categories of speech events. Throughout his four years of competition, he has come to appreciate speech & debate as a powerful avenue to advance the kingdom of God and strongly believes that glorifying God during competition takes first priority over winning ballots. With the proper values laid down, however, he does believe in the value of hard work towards achieving competitive success. At NITOC 2021 he was blessed to advance to semi-finals in both debate formats and be awarded 4th Place Tournament Champion.

As a wise man once said, "Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime." Keeping this in mind, Caleb is grateful to the coaches in his life who didn't spoon-feed him answers, but helped him along the path to discovering his own solutions to problems. He's excited to in turn do the same for young men and women God has brought to the arena of speech & debate. Caleb has a special fondness for debate theory and how each part of an argument functions, which is something that he (oddly enough) finds himself passionate about, and hopes to help other competitors understand and appreciate as well.

Caleb is pursuing a degree in the classical liberal arts at New Saint Andrews College and hopes one day to enter the legal field. When he isn't writing a paper or reading an ancient text, Caleb plays the saxophone in an orchestra, sings in a choir, improvizes on the piano—and isn't quite too old to play make-believe with his three younger siblings.
